Ikea Expanding Capacity in the United States

Ikea will invest $2.2 billion to upgrade existing stores, and open new stores and designer centers in the U.S.

Ikea’s expansion is in direct contrast to store closing decisions by other retailers, including Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart, and Best Buy.

Holiday Shipping Capacity Is Ahead of Demand

Shipping companies including the U.S. Postal Service, FedEx, and United Parcel Service will have enough capacity to achieve on-time deliveries this holiday season.

Consumers were enticed to shop early to take advantage of early holiday sales, shop more in stores, and moderate spending to counter inflation.  As a result, shipping volume was reduced, and shipments were spread over a longer period.

Toyota’s July Production Shortfall Due to Parts Shortages

Facing the challenges of semiconductor shortages and parts supply disruptions, Toyota lowered its July production forecast in Japan by 50,000 vehicles.

Toyota is expecting part shortages to be stabilized later in the year and will run additional shifts to meet the projected annual vehicle production volume of 9.7 million.

Samung’s New Chip-Making Plant To Add Capacity

Samsung is investing $17 billion to build a new advanced chip-making plant in Taylor, Texas.

This is Samsung’s second facility in Texas to provide leading-edge manufacturing capacity for semiconductor production.  Samsung’s Taylor location decision is incentivized with property tax breaks and federal subsidies.
