Fully-Autonomous Restaurant in San Francisco

Mezli, which just opened its first restaurant in August 2022, utilizes technology to bring healthy Mediterranean grain bowls to the market.

The initial restaurant is fully-autonomous and housed in a 20-foot shipping container. Their Mediterranean bowls are priced to be affordable, with the flagship bowls starting at $6.99. A Michelin-starred chef assisted with the creation of their menu.

Worker Safety Affects Starbucks Location Decisions

Crime, drug use, and homelessness are impacting Starbucks’ location choices.

The company is closing 16 stores in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Portland, citing concerns about employee and customer safety. In a crime ridden area of  Sacramento, one Starbucks stills provides only take-out, long after COVID restrictions were lifted.  Because of safety concerns, the restrooms are closed and there is no indoor seating.

Canceled Sailings: Last Resort Solution to Port Congestion

U.S. port congestion has not eased. It has simply shifted.

When the pandemic eased, manufacturers and retailers ordered more than needed to offset goods shortages and delivery uncertainty. As a result, ports became congested, which slowed the flow of goods in and out of the country. Today, bottlenecks shift from one port to the other, and labor disputes continue to exacerbate the situation. In this chaotic environment, canceling sailings seem to be a viable, albeit temporary, solution.

Hyundai Plans a New EV Plant in Georgia

Hyundai Motor Group plans to build a $5.5 billion electric car plant near Savannah, GA. The plant will have a production capacity of up to 300,000 vehicles per year in 2025.

The state of Georgia would provide Hyundai with tax breaks and other incentives in exchange for at least 8,100 jobs.
