How you pay for your items in retail stores is changing.

Walmart is promoting the use of its app to create a contactless payment.  Simply scan your items at any checkout lane, and then use the app on your smartphone.  Hold your phone over the QR code on the register and the app will bill your credit, debit, or gift card.  This helps create a hands-free payment.

Blue Apron Fails to Deliver

Once a darling in Silicon Valley, Blue Apron has seen its stock plummet.

Like many other startups, the meal-delivery service company fell short of expectations with an unsustainable and unproven business model as competition increased. After a meteoric rise, demand for the pre-packaged ingredients for a single meal with no leftovers collapsed. The company is considering multiple strategic alternatives including the sale of its assets and cost optimization initiatives.

Bans on Drive-Thrus Continue

Some cities in the US and Canada have banned new drive-thru restaurants in an effort to combat societal and health issues such as curb pollution, obesity, and traffic.

One Canadian study of bans in 27 cities showed improved health results but a similar study in southern Los Angeles found increased obesity rates after the ban was implemented.
